WinFS Demo on Channel9
Channel9 has a great WinFS video posted on their site. I am *very* impressed with what I’ve seen thusfar in the demos. Still a little reticent to install the beta 1 bits, waiting for the rest of the geek world to act as guinea pigs for me.

WinFS Makes a Cameo Appearance
[edit] Make that virtually *no* documentation, aside from a small .chm file. Doh! [/edit] <-- Per Quentin over at the WinFS blog "The documentation to look at is the SDK... it's called "winfssdk.chm" ". Even sweeter. And unlike the Uncle you were told to stay away from as a child at family reunions, a welcome one at that. According to the WinFS Team Blog, WinFS Beta 1 shipped today . It’s available for MSDN subscribers now, along with lots of documentation. Sweet.

Doing Some Reorganization Around Here
Over the coming weeks (when I have time) I’m going to be doing some reorganization of my site…a spring cleaning of sorts, except it’s almost September. Mainly shuffling content around into more streamlined post categories (and creating new ones, the first of which is called Site News which will mainly be a tracking system for me to see exactly what I’ve done when, and to keep the clutter out of my Community Server category which is being syndicated by some other sites now). I’ve also implemented Dan Bartel’s Google Site Map add-in ( http://jaysonknight.com/GoogleSiteMapIndex.aspx ) in an attempt to drum up some more traffic around here as I am 99% convinced Google doesn’t even know I exist anymore. I’m number one for my name, and that’s about it. My file page is also very close to being out of beta (again huge props to JJPike for providing the code for this very cool CS add-on); I’m working on getting RSS incorporated on it, and...

Telligent Announces .Net Developer Community Program
Per the CS.org website (full post here ): Today, we are announcing our brand new .NET Developer Community Program (.NET DCP). The .NET DCP will allow community sites built around .NET to make use of our Community Server software and all Telligent made add-ons at no cost. All sites that wish to participate in the .NET DCP will have to adhere to a set of requirements (listed below) and will have to be reviewed by folks on the Community Server team. We feel that the bar is set at an appropriate height and many .NET community sites will qualify so we encourage you to take a look at the information below and let us know if you are interested. If you are interested in setting up a .Net community-centric website, I highly recommend having a look at this new offering from Telligent . Having access to the add-ons alone makes this a very enticing package. Great job guys!

I Don't Envy...
Our brethren on the southern gulf coast right now . I’m not aware of anyone in that area who reads this blog, but if there are any of you who do, best of luck in advance. They’re saying this is the 4th most powerful Atlantic storm ever. Having weathered a storm half as powerful (it had weakened substantially before it hit Charlotte, but was still hurricane strength) 16 years ago, I can’t even imagine the devestation that sustained 175 mph winds are going to cause. It’s gonna be a helluva ride.

Pepsi Giving Away 9072 XBox 360s
Alex Barnett points to a contest that Pepsi is running wherein they are giving away an XBox 360 every 10 minutes for 9 weeks straight (starts at midnight EST). That’s 9072 XBox’s by my (usually wrong on Sunday) math. That’s also about 4.5 million dollars in XBox love (at 500 per console, though they’ll probably get a discount for buying in bulk). I don’t have any numbers in front of me, but I’m guessing they probably make that much in revenues in less than a day, so it’s a miniscule cost…plus people like me will now be purchasing Pepsi products over their Coke counterparts for the next 72 days bolstering revenues even more. Their website is running pretty slow, no doubt because of geeks everywhere having a look…and at second glance it’s written in PhP?!? I haven’t consumed a caffeinated beverage in 6 months or so (and have no plans to do so), so I hope Mountain Dew and Pepsi aren’t the only drinks that have codes. This looks like it’s gonna be a really cool contest! Sidenote: I’ve never...

Rome Premiers Tonight on HBO
Rome is premiering tonight on HBO @ 9EST. From the trailers I’ve seen, it looks very promising (if not a little too gladiator-esque). Here’s to hoping it’s a keeper.

Nick Warren Shanghai -- Global Underground 028
Any fans of electronica (progressive house in particular) really should have a listen to the new Nick Warren out on the Global Underground series. Of the 6 he’s done in this series (proud owner of them all), this is the best yet…actually, the best of all 28 in the series IMO…I’ve had it playing non-stop for a couple of days now, works wonders for studying.

New(ish) Gadget Site -- Gearlog.com
A new Engadget-like site has been launched, have a look at Gearlog . It’s also running on the Community Server platform. Aside from some random link posts, things are going to continue being pretty quiet around here for the next 2 weeks or so.

How to Remove Windows Messenger
Windows Messenger (but not MSN Messenger) has a habit of hijacking my Trillian connection anytime my laptop’s wireless connection has a hiccup (*very* annoying)…and setting Trillian as the default application in Set Program Access and Defaults doesn’t work (the settings aren’t saved), and zapping it via Task Manager usually leads to it being resurrected within a couple of seconds (and bumping my Trillian connection again)… so I uninstalled the f'ing thing . In other IM news, MSN Messenger 7.5 has been released . Now back to your regurlarly scheduled program (and back to the books for me).
