Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 Installation -- Round 3
I'm still wrestling with installation of VS.NET'd the package, still having the same issues. I'm not the only one running into problems (he had the exact same issues, and I'm having the same issues as this commenter after following the steps outlined in the post). It's baffling as I had no issues with any of the pre-betas whatsoever. I'm about to relegate this to the trash bin and give up; if anyone has successfully installed beta 1, let me know. Cheers. Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 Installation -- Round 2
I'm having no luck...unpacked the ISO, attempted a reinstall, and am getting the following error: --------------------------- Visual Studio 2005 Beta Setup --------------------------- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2337. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- I have no idea what's up...attempting to re-dl the package and try again. Seems logical enough... Read More...

Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 Installation -- Round 1
Finally got the bits for Beta 1 of VS.NET 2005, and about 20 minutes into the install I get the following error: --------------------------- Visual Studio 2005 Beta Setup --------------------------- Error 1311.Source file not found: z:\vs\ Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. --------------------------- Retry Cancel --------------------------- I have a feeling it has more to do with the ISO mounting software I use rather than the VS.NET setup program, however I was trying to avoid having to unpack the enormous 3.5 gig ISO image. So, looks like I get to go that route regardless. Updates as they present themselves... Read More...

Modest Mouse, Plus Some Thoughts on Music
I generally don't like music with words, I'm more of a musician's musician...tones, chord progressions, creative time signatures, innovative beats...that's what gets me going. In any given day I'll go from listening to Philip Glass to Aphex Twin to any of the jazz greats (Mingus, Ellington, Parker, any of the Marsalis's, etc) to progressive house to 80's (Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, etc), and on and on. Wash, rinse, repeat. I hate the radio, especially since Charlotte is such a small town. Unfortunately, R&B/hip-hop rule the airwaves here (don't get me wrong, I love me some early rap, ala Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, The Roots...), and if it's not R&B on the air, it's some new neo wannabe punk band, or some guy droning on and on about how much his life sucks with quasi structured guitar riffs wailing in the background, or the new “Just add a performer“ produced pop band of the week; this is not my idea of music. The last truly innovative band (IMO, and electronica aside)... Read More...
